Rehabilitation after cerebrovascular stroke

The rehabilitation program in Moscow is an individual complex of activities aimed for rehabilitation of bed bound patients after a cerebrovascular stroke.

Cerebrovascular stroke is a severe disease characterized by circulation disorders in the brain. By the mechanism of development, the disease is classified as ischemic and hemorrhagic. In the first case the arteries that supply the brain become occluded by blood clots or displaced atherosclerotic plaques, while in the second case a rupture occurs in the vascular wall. As a result – the cortical centers become impaired with developing neurological deficiency.

The risk factors of developing the disease include:

  • arterial hypertension, especially uncontrolled and long-term;
  • diseases of te cardiovascular system — ischemic heart disease, congenital and acquired defects, cardiac rhythm disorders;
  • increased blood clotting;
  • atherosclerotic changes within the vessels;
  • compromised family history — cardio-vascular attacks in blood relatives;
  • lipid metabolism disorders — increased levels of cholesterol and low density lipoproteins;
  • excessive psycho-emotional stresses;
  • insufficient level of physical activity;
  • smoking;
  • alcohol abuse.

Rehabilitation after cerebrovascular stroke

Sessions performed by kinesiotherapist, aimed to restore motor functions within the paralyzed areas of the body. We use Vector and AntiGravity technologies to teach patients to walk, RT-300 SKLA apparatus – to improve the status and to synchronize the motions of the lower limbs. Armeo Spring technology is used to achieve the ability of precise motions in the compromised arm. Using the Stabilplatform and virtual reality programs helps the patient to restore the coordination. ARTRAMOT devices are used to improve the status of the joints and for the normalization of muscle tonus. The massage therapist provides sessions of therapeutic massage. In case of spastic motions the neurologist performs injection of botulotoxin therapy.

Rehabilitation after cerebrovascular stroke

In order to synchronize the operations of the lower limbs, the patient undergoes training sessions using a fitness cycle, elliptical training machines and a treadmill. The RT-300 device is used to restore coordination. Training sessions controlled by ergotherapist help improving fine motor skills.

Only one out of three patient completely restore health after a stroke. At the same time, using effective methods, one can achieve much better results. The effectiveness of recovery depends on the qualification and on the coordination of the efforts from the team of physicians, on the possibilities of the equipment employed, which is why in case of doubt on where you can undergo rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke in Moscow, one must initially take into consideration not only the prices, but also the possibilities of the specialized facility.

The program compiled by the Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Center, corresponds to such principles:

  • maximal efficiency taking into consideration the values of a specific patient;
  • early beginning (recovery after a cerebrovascular stroke should be initiated as soon as possible);
  • activity — rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke should be as effective, as it is possible in terms of the patient’s status;
  • complexity — the program is aimed not only for the elimination of neurological deficiency, but also for a complete recovery in terms of psychological and social aspects.

One of the most important moments is motivation. Each patient (before treatment initiation) should clearly know what he can achieve upon the completion of the treatment course, and should aim towards the pre-established objective.

Chief research officer of the IRC

«Generally, at the beginning of diseases, meaning – right after a cerebrovascular stroke, the patient status is severe and there is an opinion that during that period the patient needs rest, as they say, "pull himself together". This is an absolutely erroneous approach!. The ones who had a cerebrovascular stroke, must immediately received dosed loading, the patient must receive tasks that he can complete. In such a case the tasks must be difficult. Only through gradual stage-by-stage overcoming one can achieve real success»

Interdisciplinary rehabilitation center is a clinics specializing on rehabilitation and recovery after a cerebrovascular stroke in Moscow. A team of specialists working in the IRC used over 100 efficient methods, by this achieving complete recovery at the shortest possible time. During the implementation of the treatment tactics the patient receives difficult but accomplishable tasks on a daily basis. As the recovery progresses, the tasks become harder. Gradually overcoming the hardest stages, the patient returns to normal life.

Within the Center the following types of rehabilitation are used:

  • motor — personal and group sessions of therapeutic exercises;
  • psychotherapeutic approach, including art-therapy;
  • training sessions using the special exercise equipment – treadmills, walking exercise equipment, medical weighing machines;
  • massage;
  • mechanotherapy;
  • logopaedic – aimed for speech recovery;
  • physiotherapeutic.

One of the main operating principles – following the patient. The program is subject to changing as often as the patient’s status requires. Not a single decision is to be drawn without the participation of a patient. It is important to persuade the patient to believe in himself and to regain the will to live. This is supported by the feedback from the patients that underwent rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke in Moscow.

Head rehabilitation therapist of the IRC

«Current studies indicate that support form the family is pretty much the most important condition for a successful rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke. This is why our task is to create a team including not only of the physician, but also friends and relatives of the patient, which, being united around the patient, supplement each other. In such a case the patient himself must become a part of the team, being the center of it. Not a single decision of the ones drawn by us, must not be discussed without the participation from the patient. If the patient is active, if the spirit of the patient is high, if the patient is supported by his family, the chances of good rehabilitation results in the majority of cases is very high.»

The rehabilitation center deals with rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke for persons not only form Moscow and Moscow oblast, but also from any other regions of Russia. The majority of them share their stories from the moment of admission to the Center until complete recovery. What is important – the patients pay attention not only to the physical status, but also to the emotional status. Working with psychologists and psychotherapists allows for feeling of complete recovery even in case of insignificant neurological deficiency.

The cost of pre-paid rehabilitation after a cerebrovascular stroke in Moscow (In-Patient Department) is to be calculated at the individual order. During the consultation the doctor examines the patient, studies the documents (results of additional studies, conclusions) and defines the specific features of the rehabilitation program. The representative of the center shall explain how the recovery process is going to go on, what consequences are to be expected, helping to define the possible risks. Based on the collected data, the cost of the treatment shall be calculated.

It is worth noting that out physicians use more than 100 methods of motor, cognitive and logopaedic rehabilitation, with the techniques can be changed from day to day, based on the status of the patient.
